Adenoma of the gallbladder in a mongoose (Mungos mungo) Ciência Rural
Cardoso,Saulo Pereira; Mattioli,Mariana Portugal; Borges,Betânia Pereira; Blume,Guilherme Reis; Reis Júnior,Janildo Ludolf; Sant'Ana,Fabiano José Ferreira de.
ABSTRACT: Primary gallbladder neoplasms occur infrequently in domestic animals and rarely in wild animals. This article describes a case of gallbladder adenoma in a mongoose ( Mungos mungo) in captivity. Grossly, the gallbladder was moderately distended with a smooth capsular surface. Necropsy showed an irregular, soft, whitish nodule 0.8cm in diameter. Microscopic examination of the nodule showed proliferation of epithelial cells, which projected from the mucosa and formed papillary projections supported by a sparse fibrovascular stroma. Neoplastic cells were well differentiated with mild anisocytosis and anisokaryosis. Based on these histopathological findings, adenoma of the gallbladder was diagnosed.

Anatomo-pathological aspects of parasitism by nematodes of the superfamily Metastrongyloidea in wild crab-eating fox (Cerdocyon thous) in Midwestern Brazil Ciência Rural
Ferreira Júnior,Jair Alves; Blume,Guilherme Reis; Sousa,Susy Karoline Hermes de; Carvalho,Clarissa Machado de; Gardiner,Chris.
ABSTRACT: Nematodes of the superfamily Metastrongyloidea affect the respiratory, cardiovascular, and nervous systems of domestic carnivores and are uncommonly detected in wild animals. This report describes the lesions associated with pulmonary parasitism by nematodes of the superfamily Metastrongyloidea in a wild crab-eating fox ( Cerdocyon thous ) in the Federal District, Brazil. Grossly, there was pulmonary hyperemia, edema, and emphysema. Microscopically, there was granulomatous arteritis associated with intravascular metastrongylid. The anatomical location, characteristic lesion, and histological features of the parasite suggested that the nematode involved in this case is Angiostrongylus vasorum . This worm is frequently reported parasitizing...

Cutaneous myxoma in a pintagol (Sporagra magellanica X Serinus canaria) Ciência Rural
Blume,Guilherme Reis; Pereira,Fernanda Mara Aragão Macedo; Reis Júnior,Janildo Ludolf; Sant'Ana,Fabiano José Ferreira de.
Myxomas are benign mesenchymal tumors rarely described in birds. This report describes the clinical and pathological findings in a case of myxoma in a pintagol (Sporagra magellanicaX Serinus canaria). The animal had a nodule on the dorsal region of the third digit on the left hindlimb. Grossly, it was a 0.9×0.5×0.4cm, soft, white nodule, with black and yellow areas on the cut surface. Microscopically, a well-differentiated monomorphic population of spindle cells arranged in an abundant Alcian blue-positive myxoid matrix was observed. The diagnosis of myxoma was based on the microscopic findings

Pyogranulomatous dermatitis and panniculitis due to Nocardia nova in a cat Ciência Rural
Blume,Guilherme Reis; Martins,Christine Souza; Matter,Letícia Beatriz; Vargas,Agueda Palmira Castagna de; Oliveira,Letícia Batelli de; Reis Junior,Janildo Ludolf; Sant'Ana,Fabiano José Ferreira de.
This report describes the clinical, pathological and microbiological findings of an uncommon infection in a cat by Nocardia nova. A 3-year-old male domestic short hair cat with an ulcerated and exudative cutaneous wound was presented for clinical examination. Samples were collected for histopathology and bacteriology diagnosis. Microscopically, the lesion was diagnosed as pyogranulomatous dermatitis and panniculitis with large and irregular colonies of branching filamentous bacterium. Skin bacteriological culture showed gram-positive rods and partially acid-fast branching filaments by gram and kinyoun staining, respectively. The identity of Nocardia nova was confirmed by 16S rDNA sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. This is the first case of...

Vertebral chondrosarcoma in a blue-fronted parrot (Amazona aestiva) Ciência Rural
Blume,Guilherme Reis; Oliveira,Ayisa Rodrigues de; Mattioli,Mariana Portugal; Oliveira,Letícia Batelli de; Reis Junior,Janildo Ludolf; Sant'Ana,Fabiano José Ferreira de.
Chondrosarcoma is a malignant mesenchymal tumor in which the neoplastic cells produce cartilaginous matrix and is uncommonly described in birds. This report describes the clinical and pathological findings of one case of chondrosarcoma in a blue-fronted parrot (Amazona aestiva). Macroscopically a 3.6x3.5x1.8cm, nodular, ulcerated, and firm mass was identified in the dorsal synsacrum. Microscopically, the mass was composed of a monomorphic proliferation of pleomorphic spindle chondrocytes with abundant cartilaginous matrix, consistent with chondrosarcoma
